In 1953 I travelled with my parents aboard the Q.S.S.S.New Australia to Sydney, we were migrating to Australia. On the way there we arrived at the port of Suez where, at that time the statue of Ferdinand De Lesseps stood on the breakwater. (It was later demolished when Nasser took control of Egypt). The ship dropped anchor opposite the Suez Canal Building which was a lovely building and has always been in my memory, we would see it and be able to photograph it in colour rather than the black and white photograph my late father took in 1953.. In October 2012, to celebrate my wife's and my 40th Wedding anniversary, we set sail aboard P and O Cruises Oriana for a month long cruise which would take us through the Suez Canal twice. Anne had seen the cruise advertised and, as she had never been through the Canal, we both decided that it would be a good cruise and we would visit ports that she had not been to before. The following pages capture a flavour of the voyage. | |||
