"Southern Cross"
Two
of the new Post-War vessels that was built for Shaw Savill was the"Southern
Cross", with her sister ship "Northern Star" both running
a joint service between England and Australia. The photographs shows
them in their original livery. |

Southern
Cross in her later years as Ulysses Line's "Calypso" (see
Ulysses Line page for more information).I looked after her from 1976
until she was sold to Dolphin Cruises of Miami and renamed "Azure
Seas".at the end of 1979, again later as "Ocean Breeze".
She was sold for scrapping at Chittagong in November 2003. (Michael Ian Byard collection) |

Like many other shipping companies,Shaw Savill produced nice sets of playing cards, a double pack of which is illustrated here together with the original box. The vessel depicted is Dominion Monarch on one pack, and the famous flag circling the Earth on the other. (Michael Ian Byard Collection) |
