The following information was sent to me by Malcolm Longstaff, formerly of Macdonald, Hamilton and Co (see those pages via P and O or "Naldham" on my home page) but now involved with Cunard publicity in Sydney, to whom I extend my sincere thanks:

Built: By Alstom Chantiers de l'Atlantique Saint-Nazaire, France.
Officially named by The Queen at a ceremony in Southampton on 8 January 2004.
Tonnage: 151,400 gross tons
Length 1,132 feet Beam 135 feet, Beam (at Bridge Wings) 147.6 feet, Draft 32 feet, 8 inches,
Height: 236.2 feet (keel to funnel):
Passenger Decks: 17 Speed 28.5 knots (maximum 30)
Number of Passengers: 2,620 normal passenger capacity (lowers) 3,090 total passenger capacity
(uppers and lowers), Ship Personnel: 1,253 Officers British and International Crew International
Social Staff British and American.
Nearly three-fourths: (72.9%) of QM2 staterooms include spacious eight-foot-deep balconies. Accommodations for disabled passengers will be offered in various category grades, including both
interior and sea-view staterooms (a total of 30 specially equipped cabins).

 

The photographs below were taken at the "Ocean Terminal" in Southampton, where she occupied "Titanic's" old berth, by Michael Ian Byard, by digital camcorder and 'frame-grabbed' together with a conventional film camera just prior to her sailing on her Maiden Voyage to Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Monday 12th January, 2004 (my Wife Anne's 50th Birthday!) .
